Frequently Asked Questions

Why book Cello Bar for my function?

If you’re in need of a musical act which is very different yet somehow familiar, Cello Bar may be just what you’re looking for.

Cello Bar is not for everyone, but very much for some people!  Our arrangements for piano, vocals and cello are totally unique, and beautiful.  The sound and sight of the cello within popular music is romantic, haunting and inspiring.

What’s your songlist?
Click here for our most current songlist. We’re also continually updating our repertoire…

Do you take requests?
Yes, on two levels! If you’d like a specific song or songs played at your function (outside of our songlist), please notify us within two weeks of the event and “it will be done”. We will also endeavour to play any requests made by your guests on the night (we carry a collection of sheet music plus a “song sponge brain” with us).  Please call or email us now to discuss your specific requirements.

Do you have your own PA/Sound equipment?  Can we use your microphone for speeches?
Yes and yes! We have a state-of-the-art PA system made by Nexo, with wireless microphones by Sennheisser. We’re more than happy for you to use our microphones for any speeches or announcements during your function.

Do you cover the current top-forty?
Only by prior specific request. The bulk of our repertoire is pop hits from the fifties through eighties, jazz standards and showtunes. If your guests are likely to be wanting hits of the 90’s and 00’s all night, we’re not your best choice of entertainment.

Who are Cello Bar?  Where have you played?
Cello Bar are: Brenton Edgecombe – Piano and Vocals (Prize Winner, Sydney Performing Arts Challenge vocal section, former Adelaide and WA Sympnony Orchestras, etc. etc.) Jacqui Edgecombe – Cello (former Sydney and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras etc. etc.) We’ve taken our music all around the world, including a four-month Alaskan cruise season for Princess Cruises (US), and repeat engagements as Entertainers on the iconic Spirit of Tasmania.

Can we dance to your music?
Yes and no. Cello Bar is a semi-acoustic duo with no backing tracks, MIDI files or drum machines. Therefore we don’t have the driving beat that most people associate with dance music. Over the years many people have enjoyed dancing to our music, but its not our focus. If you really want your guests to be up on the floor and dancing all night, we’re not the act you’re looking for!

You say you can also be a classical duo for our Wedding Ceremony!  Do you really know what you’re doing???
Absolutely! We are both classically trained musicians who worked for many years in Australia’s professional Symphony Orchestras. Prior to the formation of Cello Bar we both played in many String Quartets, Trios and Duos, and have played at countless weddings, parties and Corporate Events.

Can you “split the bill” with a Dance Band or DJ?
Of course!

What are your fees?
For functions within one hour’s drive of Melbourne: One hour or less $800 + GST Two hours or less $1000 + GST Over two hours $1200 + GST Cello Bar will entertain for a maximum of four hours (including time taken for breaks), in keeping with Health and Safety recommendations. However, “J&B Classical Duo” can perform additionally within the same fee, and/or we’ll happily play your recorded dance music after we’ve finished performing!
