Frequently Asked Questions Do you really look and sound exactly like Elton John?
I'll have to let you be the judge of that. I can say, however, that thousands of people have told me I do. I was even once excused from a luggage search in Cairo by a security guard who actually thought I was the great man! I had slightly mixed feelings about this since Sir Elton is 20 years older!!
We'd like you to perform at our Anniversary party, but we don't have a piano. Is this a problem?
Not at all! I have a portable weighted key electric piano which means I can perform in almost any venue. Our Corporate clients often hire in a real grand piano which adds to the spectacle.
I'm a huge Elton John fan, but I'm scared my guests will get bored sitting through 30 minutes of Elton John music. What do you think?
The Crocodile Rocket show has been designed to entertain all but the most fervent Elton John hater (yes they do exist, sadly)!! Although the show is based on the music and persona of Elton John, it is not a replica of an Elton John concert. I do lots of short versions of songs (and medleys) to make the show fast paced. There is also lots of fun and comedy. For example: "What if Elton was Australian" – a hilarious mixture of Elton-ized Australian songs and Australianized Elton songs. Ending with Elton belting "I Still Call Australia Home", this medley always brings the house down. "By Request" – your guests yell out Elton songs and Croc plays them as requested, creating an improvised medley – totally unique to your function. "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" - the voice of Kiki Dee makes a surprise visit to your function ("live via satellite") to lead a stirring (but never embarrassing) Karaoke version
Do you know every Elton John song ever written?
I'm afraid not (I'm pretty sure Elton doesn't either!) I've tried to include everybody's favourite Elton John hits in my show. However, if you have a specific request, please let me know at least two weeks prior to my performance, and I guarantee it will be included. We were thinking of having you entertain our guests during their meal. What do you think? No, no, no, please … NO J !!! Here's why – typically you'll be paying big money for the meal at your function. If I perform while your guests are eating, one of two things will happen – (a) they'll be engrossed with Crocodile Rocket and miss their wonderful meal OR (b) they'll be engrossed with their meal and miss me! Please don't make me compete with the food, there's room for everyone… In my experience, the best time for a feature entertainer (if the function has a meal) is either between dinner and dessert (for a 30 to 40 minute show) or between entrée and dinner (for short shows only – ie. 15 to 20 minutes).
I'm also having a dance band at my party – can you perform while they're having their break?
Absolutely! However, please have me work with you and your band prior to the event to organize the logistics. Crocodile Rocket needs to be "centre stage" for the show to be effective, and clearly I can't be out among your audience lugging my piano and speakers around in my platform boots just prior to my performance. It really ruins the effect!
Do you have Public Liability and Workcover insurances?
Yes (ouch!) For Corporate and Event entertainment its essential.
Do you have PA (sound amplification equipment) or do we need to provide it?
I have a small PA suitable for functions of 150 people or less, within driving distance from Melbourne. For larger functions, or where I need to fly, you or your venue will need to provide appropriate technical support (I'm happy to organize this for you if you’d prefer for functions with Australia).
Thanks for your quote for a 35 minute show. It seems a little high for just 35 minutes! Can’t you play for an hour ???
Well ….. ok ….. BUT …. in feature entertainment, often less is more. As explained under “What is a feature act?" this show (like a Magician or Comedian) requires a fully attentive audience to be effective. I will strive to create a fantastic and memorable experience for your guests or corporate clients, which will include assessing the optimum length of my performance. (Don’t worry, I always have plenty of encores up our sleeve, so if your guests are screaming for more by the end of our show, I’ll give it to them – very happily!!)
You just gave me a quote for a 40 minute show, which is a little higher than I was hoping. Will you do a 20 minute show for half that price?
No - my fees are not determined by the length of time I'm on stage (see FAQ above).
How much can I expect to pay for a Crocodile Rocket show at my function?
Like most entertainers, I quote individually for every situation. Corporate dinners, private birthday celebrations, charity events, theatre or festival appearances all attract different fees and have differing technical and logistical considerations.
